Boeing taps Frontline for role in mega border-security pact

San Antonio Business Journal - November 3, 2006

San Antonio-based Frontline Systems Inc. will get a piece of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) $2.5 billion SBInet contract aimed at securing the United States' borders.

In September, DHS announced that Chicago-based The Boeing Co. was awarded the contract. Boeing, in turn, put Frontline on its contract team to provide advanced technology to detect and resolve illegal entry attempts at both the Canadian and Mexican borders.

The contract is for three years, along with three option years. Frontline officials say they are in the process of submitting proposals for various segments of the contract and do not yet know how much of the $2.5 billion pie will be awarded to them.

According to the DHS, the SBInet program was announced in November 2005 and is a critical part of the Secure Border Initiative.

That initiative is a comprehensive plan to control the U.S. border and stem the flow of illegal immigration through a mix of increased staffing, more interior enforcement, greater investment in detection technology and infrastructure and enhanced coordination on federal, state, local and international levels.

The SBInet program is focused on transforming border control through technology and infrastructure by fielding the most effective mix of current and next-generation technology.

According to Bob Sanchez, chairman of Frontline, his company will bring to the Boeing table its capabilities of information systems, program management and support, logistics support and the development and delivery of advanced programs such as its new Content Delivery System (CDS) technology.
